The Edmonton Oil Kings will be without forward Dylan Dean for four games after the Western Hockey League handed down a suspension stemming from a kneeing incident against the Regina Pats on October 2.

Dean received a kneeing major and game misconduct for the play involving Pats forward Parker Trottier during Edmonton’s 5–1 victory at Rogers Place. The WHL’s discipline entry, dated October 3, now lists a four-game suspension.

The ruling adds a disciplinary setback to a night that otherwise offered Edmonton plenty to build on. Kayden Stroeder recorded a hat trick, newly acquired forward Luke Melnik scored in his Oil Kings debut, and Parker Snell stopped 29 shots as Edmonton improved to 2–2–1–0.

Dean’s absence now creates an opening in the forward lineup as the Oil Kings look to carry that performance into their next stretch of games. For head coach Jason Smith, the immediate task is adjusting his lineup while maintaining the offensive momentum Edmonton generated against Regina.

Trottier entered the matchup coming off a breakout performance of his own. The Regina forward scored his first two WHL goals and added an assist in the Pats’ September 27 victory over Swift Current.

The league’s public discipline listing identifies the offence and suspension length but does not provide a detailed explanation of the four-game ruling. It also does not outline Trottier’s injury status.

For Edmonton, the consequence is clear: Dean will be unavailable for four games, leaving the Oil Kings to navigate an early-season lineup adjustment after earning an important home victory.
