With just one weekend remaining in the 2026 RMLL Junior B Tier 1 regular season, there is still one major question left to answer in the South Division.

Who will claim the fourth and final playoff spot?

The top four teams qualify for the South Division playoffs, and while the Calgary Shamrocks, Okotoks Marauders and Calgary Chill have already secured their postseason berths, three teams remain locked in a battle for the final ticket.

The Calgary Mountaineers, Rockyview Silvertips, and Mavericks Elite Lacrosse Club are separated by just a single point heading into a weekend that features multiple head-to-head matchups. Every possession, every save and every goal could ultimately decide who continues their season and who is forced to watch from home.

Calgary Mountaineers Control Their Own Fate

The Calgary Mountaineers enter the weekend holding the inside track.

At 9-5-2, the Mounties sit fourth in the South Division with 20 points, one point ahead of both Rockyview and the Mavericks. Earlier this season, Calgary looked poised to challenge near the top of the standings after putting together an impressive six-game winning streak. Since then, however, they’ve cooled off, winning just one of their last four games, allowing the rest of the division to close the gap.

Their biggest test comes Saturday when they host the Mavericks Elite Lacrosse Club in what may be the most important regular season game in the South Division this year.

The two clubs met once earlier this season in Innisfail, where the Mavericks edged the Mountaineers 9-8 in a tightly contested battle.

Offensively, Calgary has leaned heavily on one of the league’s most dangerous duos.

Dane Hansen has been spectacular, recording 36 goals and 34 assists for 70 points in just 15 games, while Madden Bowers has added 24 goals and 34 assists for 58 points of his own.

Between the pipes, Calgary has relied on a balanced tandem. Connor Thain has appeared in 12 games, posting a 6.70 goals-against average and an .864 save percentage, while Austin Manning has played six games with a 7.20 GAA and an .833 save percentage.

The Mountaineers won’t have much time to celebrate—or recover—after Saturday’s showdown. They finish their regular season Sunday against the third-place Okotoks Marauders, a team they defeated 8-7 in one of the biggest upsets of the early season.

If Calgary can replicate that result, they’ll leave no doubt about their playoff status.

Rockyview Looking to Complete the Climb

The Rockyview Silvertips find themselves just outside the playoff picture despite matching the Mavericks with a 9-6-1 record.

Currently sitting fifth with 19 points, the Silvertips have quietly built momentum at exactly the right time, winning three of their last four games to keep their postseason hopes alive.

Their challenge, however, is arguably the toughest of the three contenders.

Rockyview opens the weekend Saturday against the first-place Calgary Shamrocks, before closing the regular season Sunday against the Mavericks Elite Lacrosse Club in another game that could directly determine the final playoff spot.

The Silvertips have dealt with adversity throughout the season, particularly in goal. Earlier in the year they lost starting netminder Kaiden McDonaugh after his promotion to Junior A, forcing others into larger roles.

Jacob Orr has answered the call, appearing in 10 games while posting an 8.50 GAA and an .820 save percentage.

Offensively, Rockyview possesses plenty of firepower.

Nolan Sharp leads the team with 28 goals and 39 assists for 67 points in 16 games, while Tyler Montgomery and Logan Newhook have provided outstanding secondary scoring with 57 and 56 points, respectively.

If the Silvertips can upset the Shamrocks before taking on the Mavericks, they’ll put enormous pressure on Calgary and create a dramatic finish to the regular season.

Mavericks Hold the Biggest Opportunity

Few teams enter the final weekend with as much to play for as the Mavericks Elite Lacrosse Club.

Despite already qualifying for the Larry Bishop Championship Tournament later this month, the Mavericks would much rather continue playing meaningful lacrosse than spend several weeks waiting for provincials.

At 9-6-1 and 19 points, the Mavericks may actually hold the clearest path to a playoff berth.

Why?

Because they face both teams they’re chasing.

Saturday’s matchup against the Mountaineers is effectively a four-point game, before Sunday’s meeting with Rockyview could become a winner-take-all contest depending on Saturday’s results.

The Mavericks have experienced an inconsistent stretch to close the season, dropping two games to the Calgary Shamrocks while also earning important victories over the Saskatchewan SWAT and Red Deer Rampage.

Their roster also looks considerably different than it did just a few weeks ago.

Trade deadline acquisition Henry Elliott arrived from the Saskatchewan SWAT, while several players have returned from Junior A commitments, giving the Mavericks one of their deepest lineups of the season just in time for the playoff push.

Goaltending has featured a true one-two combination.

Grayson Tapping has been outstanding in limited action, posting a 3.90 goals-against average and an .893 save percentage across six appearances. Cameron Greenly has handled the heavier workload, appearing in 11 games with a 10.40 GAA and an .802 save percentage.

Up front, Haakon Clayton has paced the offence with 21 goals and 40 assists for 61 points, while Jace Victoria has contributed 29 goals and 29 assists for 58 points.

For a roster that has experienced its share of growing pains throughout the season, the opportunity couldn’t be more straightforward.

Win both games, and they’re in.

A Weekend That Will Decide the South

The schedule couldn’t have been written much better.

• Sunday: Mountaineers vs. Marauders

With the contenders facing one another directly, there will be no easy path into the postseason.

Every goal, every save and every loose ball could determine which team earns the final playoff berth.
