Odellein passes away at 58

58-year-old Lyle Odelein (189GP, 33G, 130A with Moose Jaw from 1985-88) suddenly passed away on October 3rd. A seventh round selection of the Montreal Canadiens in 1986, Odelein went on to win a Stanley Cup with the team, play 1056 games, score 50 goals and add 202 assists. Through his 16 seasons, the Quill Lake, SK native played for the Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, Phoenix Coyotes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers, and Pittsburgh Penguins. He retired following 27 games in the 2005-06 NHL season.

Williams dealt in KHL move

31-year-old defenseman Colby Williams (211GP, 25G, 79A with Regina from 2010-16) is on the move in the Kontinental Hockey League. The Regina, SK native was traded from HK Sochi, where he was held pointless in five games, to the Shanghai Dragons for cash considerations. This will be his fifth KHL team in a little over three seasons. The Washington Capitals selected Williams in the sixth round of the 2015 NHL Draft.

Perillat on the training camp roster of the ECHL’s Gladiators

Saskatoon, SK resident Dustin Perillat (95GP, 13G, 33A with Moose Jaw and Saskatoon from 2014-16) has made the training camp roster of the ECHL’s Atlanta Gladiators after spending the 2025-26 season with the FPHL’s Athens Rock Lobsters. The 29 year old defenseman scored eight times and added 17 assists in 27 games with the Rock Lobsters last season.

Irving joins HC Kometa Brno

30-year old defenseman Aaron Irving (276GP, 42G, 99A with Edmonton and Everett from 2012-17) has signed a one-year contract with an option for a second year with HC Kometa Brno of Czechia’s top professional league. In 51 games with HC Sparta Praha in 2025-26, Irving posted five goals and added 13 assists in 51 contests. He then added a goal and an assist in 18 playoff games.
